Everyone’s heard about high school sweethearts but do you know any successful high school sweetheart stories?
Here at KHS we have our very own successful high school sweethearts story. First, did you know that Kenwood’s art teacher, Mr. Lyon graduated from KHS himself back in 2000. But not only that so did his wife! And they officially started dating their sophomore year here at KHS, making them a two decades successful high school sweethearts story.
“Our first date was kind of homecoming our sophomore year. We went with separate people but it didn’t work out so we ended up together that night and even took pictures together,” shared Mr. Lyon.
They started officially dating January 1998 of their sophomore year when they were both 15 and have been together every since. He played basketball and baseball and she always came out to his games. “We were the typical cheerleader and athlete couple. We worked together at her family’s restaurant (Schultz’s crab house) before we started dating and got closer when we had a 10th grade science class (room 201 Mrs. Button),” Mr. Lyon adds.

During high school they would take day trips to Six Flags with their friends, go to the movies all the time, and worked together as much as possible. “After graduation she got her nursing degree and got my art degree. I went away for a semester, which was tough but we worked through it,” shared Mr. Lyon.
Mr. Lyon remembers how her father never referred to him as her boyfriend but always just her friend. Finally, he admitted he was more than her friend once they got engaged when they were 21. They both went to college and later got married at 22 and have now been married for 22 years. They now have two kids that are 12 and 15.
“She’s the boss of everything and runs things. I would struggle with life without her,” he shares, still thankful to have her in his life almost thirty years later. We wish Mr. and Mrs. Lyon another thirty plus years of happiness together.
