With sweat on their brows and focus in their eyes, the Kenwood High School boys soccer team went in to the Fall of 25 season with determination and teamwork, united by one goal, to bring home a winning season. Although they had an amazing start to the season by winning games one right after the other, the season concluded when they lost the regional finals. Though many were disappointed it was obvious that it was a great game, no matter how many times the team lost possession they came back stronger and worked harder.
Coach James says, “The season has been great and the boys are put in a lot of effort on and off the pitch.” It’s undebatable how much the boys put into their sport, Coach James even adds, “We have been putting a lot of time on the practice field to get the results and performance we desire on game day.”
Many of the players spoke up about the lessons that they learned through playing soccer for Kenwood. Although they all had their own lessons and reasonings, many of them said the same thing, communication skills. The boys soccer team’s percentage of wins was 91.67%. It’s a clear sign that the boys soccer team doesn’t play when it comes to communication. Great team communication gets results. Even the captain of the JV team Blake H says, “The team built up communication skills through trust and determination.”
As the coach spoke about the team he spoke very highly of them. Coach James adds, “The team chemistry is second to none. The boys work extremely hard to push each other at practice and play for each other on game day.”
The team’s chemistry was regarded highly by the players as well. Cody H adds, “We play well together and we know who to pass to in certain situations.” Many connected the communication skills to the chemistry which was amazing to say the least. John R even referenced the team as a “pack of hyenas”. He adds, “We work as a team but we are all hungry for the ball.”
They ended the season strong with a record of 12-2. They started their season off with an opening game against Franklin High School where the Bluebirds took the win in a close 4-3 match with Carlos Interiano scoring a header to win the game, assisted by Elias Perez.
In the Bluebirds’ rival against the Overlea Falcons they won 5-0. The Bluebirds headed in to playoffs strong and pulled off a double overtime win against Dundalk High to head to the Regional Final against Dulaney. Unfortunately, despite a great effort by the Bluebirds, they lost 1–0 in overtime.
The team is determined to come back stronger next year and this season was a season worth celebrating.
