Wrestling season has concluded but it was a season of many successes for several Kenwood wrestlers.
Several wrestlers placed at counties with freshmen Hunter Polly at 106 lbs taking 2nd, sophomore Baylee Wagner at 113 lbs taking 4th, senior Charles McDonaldson at 132 lbs 5th, senior Luca Blythe at 138 lbs with 1st and a 2x County Champion, junior Cole Polly at 144 lbs finished 6th, and as a team the Kenwood Boys Wrestling team finished 7th out of 24 teams with 89.5 points.
Polly went on to also take 3rd at Regionals and was a state qualifier and finished the season with a record of 36-9. Wagner took 4th at Regionals and was also a state qualifier and finished with a record to 24-17. McDonaldson took 5th at Regionals and was a state qualifier and finished the season with a 34-11 record. Polly was a regional qualifier and finished the season with a 25-6 record. Blythe who also broke a school record back in January took 5th place at Regionals, was a state qualifier with a season record of 39-5 but finished his four years with a record of 161-31.
The Kenwood High School JV Wrestling also had a successful performance at the Baltimore County JV invitational with 5 of their 9 wrestlers placing. The following JV wrestlers placed:
113 – Cody Haines 5th place
120 – Ja’kel Lewis 1st place and Baltimore County JV Champ
120 – Dario Centeno 2nd place
165 – Jared Berry 6th place
285 – Nathan Demastus 6th place
The girls wrestling team also had several individual successes this season. In the county tournament the girls placed 5th as a team out of 24 teams. KHS only had 5 girls wrestle at the BCPS Championships while all the four teams ahead of them had 7-14 girls entered in the event. Individually freshmen Dallas Caldwell was a regional qualifier at 4th place and at state qualifier; freshmen Lisseth Hernandez-Perez finished 6th at the County tournament and was a regional qualifier; sophomore Gabby Hernandez Troches took 2nd place at the County tournament, 2nd place in the regional tournament, was state qualifier, and finished with a record of 20-10; sophomore Jasmine Brock took 2nd place at the County tournament, 4th at regionals, was also a state qualifier and finished the season with a record 17-10; freshmen Diamond Odeleye took 6th place at the county tournament and was a regional qualifier while senior Zoey Lam was the first ever KHS Girls County Champion, took 2nd at regionals, was state qualifier, and finished the season with a record of 26-7.
Overall it was a great season and looking forward to next season.
