The indoor track season for Kenwood takes place during the winter sports season. Kenwood’s first indoor track team was formed in the late 1960’s. Track is an important sport as it teaches discipline, teamwork, and endurance.
Some indoor track participants are active year long runners, participating in track and cross country, while some other students use indoor track to stay in shape in the off season of their main sport.
Winter in general is a tough time to stay motivated but Morakinyo shared that his motivation to continue running during the season was driven by the internal comradery from his teammates. “My team kept me accountable. If anyone missed a day they’d call you out,” he shared.
This season junior Myles Venable was the State Champion in both the 55m and the 300m, setting school records in both and competed at Indoor Nationals. Earlier this season he was also a member of the 4x200m relay team that broke the indoor record, along with senior Kairiece Carr, junior Kamsi Ossai, and junior Amontae Caillet.
Last year Venable finished in 10th and 13th place and put in countless hours of training during the off season to push to break the school records and to become the state champion he became. “He’s also ranked number 1 in Maryland for the 55m, running the same time as Olympic gold medalist Quincy Wilson!” shared track Coach Scheuerman.

Indoor track, just like any other sport, takes effort and dedication to find success.
