Student artists from local elementary students to your KHS students transformed the MPR section of the school into a gallery art space, showcasing vibrant and colorful pieces of art. Hundreds of drawing, painting, and many other forms of art were displayed, showing the students creativity for others to enjoy.
Kenwood hosted its annual Art Show on April 23rd in which the art show featured artwork from student artists from 10 different local schools, including all of our elementary feed schools and Middler River and Stemmer’s Run Middle School.
Kenwood’s Ms. Cain is the mastermind behind putting together this annual tradition. “We had three dimensional clay sculptures, paintings, drawings and photographs,” she shared. Overall, the Art Show had multiple types and forms of art/media such as oil pastel drawings and oil paintings displayed for everyone to see.
During the Art Show, the National Art Honor Society did face paintings, and had a booth for students, where they could make waterflies or dragonflies. Ola B. who participated shared, “My experience was fun, because I got to volunteer for elementary school kids and helping them create mask felt like my youth again.” Kids in attendance got to create something new while seeing the displayed creations of other students.
Mr. Ladd’s jazz ensemble was there to provide entertainment as well, along with Mr. Goldbeck and the community schools association with pizza to give out for free. Students and parents could eat pizza and buy ice cream. Mr. Sulf, the ice cream truck owner, was even a Kenwood High School graduate!
As visitors walk into the art show they could see colorful eye catching art throughout. The main motivation is frequently to bring together local artists and engage the community. Artists are often inspired to showcase their work to a bigger audience, share personal experiences, and connect with people through their artistic language.
Senior Maryam Alfatlah has been working all four years on developing her artistic skills and talents during her time here at Kenwood. “It feels rewarding seeing people admire my artwork at art shows and appreciating something I created,” she shares.
Artists hope to spark imagination, creativity, and connection in their audience. Kenwood’s annual Art Show demonstrates that when a community comes together, creativity thrives and prospers. Make sure to support these rising artists, whether through a compliment or attending any future shows. It helps artists to have their work seen and gives them a sense of achievement.
