Kenwood High hosts an annual tradition for it’s seniors called Senior Signing Day to celebrates the decision seniors have made for their next chapter after they leave Kenwood’s halls.
The Kenwood High School auditorium was filled with cheers, college merch on Friday as the Class of 2026 celebrated Senior Decision Day on May 1. Around 100 seniors participated in celebrating their next steps with confidence, and many are headed to college with scholarship money in hand. The event is meant to “recognized all post-secondary plans: 2-year & 4 -year college, trade school, special programs, military, and workforce,” shared Ms. Lee.
For many, the day marked more than just a college choice. It was proof that hard work pays off. “I’m most excited about starting a new chapter of my life in a different environment and living the life I want. One thing I will miss about high school is the friendships I’ve made in high school,” stated senior Iyanna Jones, who will attend Alabama State University to major in criminal justice.
Seniors also shared advice for underclassmen feeling the pressure about what comes next after graduation. “I would say take your time to do your research to figure out exactly what you want and what options will provide that for you. Also, understand that this is YOUR future and anyone else’s opinions do not matter,” stated senior Amya Wall, who will be attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to major in nursing.
Ms. Lee, who coordinated the ceremony, closed with encouragement for every path. “Whether you’re going to a four-year, community college, trade school, military, or the workforce you have a plan, and that’s what matters. Kenwood is proud of you.”
To every senior -you beat the odds, the deadlines, and the doubt. You researched, you applied, and you decided. The same grit that got you here will carry you through what’s next. This is just the start. Go be great, Bluebirds.
