Stepping into the spotlight Kenwood’s dance team brings energy , passion , and precision to every performance. With legacy of excellence and commitment growth , this dynamic dance team is excited to take the stage with intricate choreography and infectious smiles.
Kenwood’s dance team started a few years ago, shortly after the pandemic. It’s become a popular program with students to be active and belong to something here at KHS. “The reason I wanted to be on the dance team was to do what I love and share it with others. Dance isn’t just about movement but it’s also about community and connection while having fun. Dance offers a space where people can express themselves while celebrating culture,” shares senior dancer Towmia.
Kenwood’s dance team will be taking the stage tomorrow night, December 18 at 5:30 PM in our auditorium for their Winter Dance Showcase. Various dancers will be performing throughout the night for a total of 12 difference dance performances.
“My favorite dance we’ll be performing is “Rotate” by Wanda Coal. It’s my favorite because it brings a lot of energy , not just to the dancers but also to the audience. When I choreographed it , I added some freestyle moments to keep it fun and spontaneous , and that made it even more exciting to perform,” shared senior captain Towmia.
Though some of the dances are difficult and require significant effort, the team has been working together to overcome the challenges to prepare a performance for this winter’s audience. “Our dance team dynamic is very supportive .We always uplift one another and make sure everyone feels seen and heard. Even as the dance captain ,I love listening to dancer’s ideas and opinions because at the end of the day we are a team,” adds Towmia.
You don’t have to be great to start ,but you have to start to be great so if you have a passion for dance or want to see what KHS Dance is all about be sure to come out Thursday night and support their winter showcase.
