It’s the Christmas holiday season! Can you feel the festive energy in the air? This past weekend Kenwood hosted its second annual Bluebird Holiday market with crafts and goodies and visits with Santa and the Grinch.
“The Bluebird Holiday market is an amazing opportunity for our community to experience all the amazing things KHS has to offer. It was a super fun, and well run event,” shared Principal Smith.

This time of the year can bring a whole abundance of emotions. The way Christmas has been celebrated years before we could remember is different from the way we may celebrate today. Christmas originated when Christ was born in the early fourth century. Though we may not know the actual date Christmas itself has always taken place on the 25th of December. Though Christmas is a Christian holiday and not celebrated by all it’s a well known holiday with the way everything from stores to schools to communities explode in festive lights and music and activities. Many pagan traditions were integrated and “Christianized” to become part of modern Christmas celebrations. The word “Christmas” comes from “Cristes mæsse,” meaning “Christ’s Mass”.
For kids, Christmas is often a favorite holiday. Kayla Jones shares, “Christmas is definitely my favorite holiday, between the love that the people I surround myself around bring helped the holidays grow to be one of my favorites.”
Christmas is often seen as a time to come together with family and friends. “During Christmas time my family all takes time to decorate the inside and outside of the house. We make cookies and also prepare for that day’s dinner. On the actual day we open presents in the morning, have brunch, and prepare for our whole family to have dinner that night,” adds Shalia Jenkins.
Kenwood’s Bluebird Holiday Market is just the beginning of Kenwood’s own holiday traditions. Just like any family, the Kenwood family have many of their own traditions they engage in every year from their staff “adopt a family” mission to support community members in need and the annual gift wrapping night by Kenwood’s clubs to wrap all the donated gifts to SSA’s annual holiday basketball tournament to SGA’s holiday door decorating contest and spirit week. It’s a festive time of the year to enjoy each other’s company.
Whatever your holiday traditions are we wish you peace and joy this season!
