Kenwood’s Girls Basketball team is headed to the second round of the playoffs tonight after a big win Wednesday night 59-17 against Dundalk. They will tip off against the Gators of Perry Hall at Perry Hall High School tonight at 5pm.
The Kenwood girls’ basketball season has had a successful season with a current record of 11-7. Varsity Coach Ronda has immense pride in her team, noting the the team’s significant progress. “Despite facing the challenges with a team of only eight players this season, every player made notable contributions. Senior leaders Mackenzie Green, Aaliyah Blake, and Kailia Rideout have had standout performances,” she shares.
One game that stood out this season was against Woodlawn on January 24. Both JV and varsity teams secured victories together, fueling excitement for future games, as they headed in to the end of their season.
Senior All County player Mackenzie Green has truly loved her last season on the KHS court. “This has by far been the best season! People have doubted us so much but we always believed in ourselves. This is my last season and as one of the team captains I’ve always appreciated my coaches and teammates for believing in me,” shares Mackenzie.
Girls basketball offers girls the opportunity to not just advance their basketball skills, work on teamwork and sportsmanship but build confidence, discipline, and physical fitness. At Kenwood High School, basketball embodies the values of family, dedication, and future aspirations. Basketball fosters a sense of family and emphasizes the importance of commitment. Through basketball, the girls at Kenwood learn resilience, enabling them to bounce back from losses and overcome obstacles with greater determination, that will benefit them on and off the court.
“Tonight is a big game for us! I know we all want to bring the win home. I’ve had a lot to prove this season and I’m going to work hard tonight to make history here at Kenwood as we move on in the playoffs,” adds Mackenzie.
Be sure to come out and watch this team in action tonight as they take on the Gators. We wish them the best of luck!
