The Homecoming tradition is a high school experience that the young anticipate and the old reminisce upon. As Homecoming approaches there’s just a special buzz in the air knowing our school and community will come together to celebrate and recognize the traditions of Kenwood. Old memories are reflected upon and new ones are made.

It’s the excitement of the competition between classes at the annual afternoon pep rally.  It’s the time with friends picking out a homecoming dress and planning spirit day outfits. It’s the long standing tradition of the community spending Friday night under the lights cheering on their beloved  football boys in blue.

It’s a whole weekend dedicated to parades, powder puff games, and finally the tradition of the first high school dance of the year. Students willingly jump in to help decorate and plan for a memorable week celebrating their school.  Students vote for their friends and anxiously await the nominations and winning announcements of the homecoming court.

The Homecoming experience is one that leaves a magical and exhilarating mark on one’s high school days. Having this tradition of  celebrating past and present students creates a feeling of community . For freshmen, it’s a night time of promise to become a part of this long standing tradition. Hearing about this experience from others creates a sense of excitement for them. For upperclassmen, it brings about a feeling of nostalgia of being able to look back on past memories and make new ones.

As the Homecoming festivities kick off this weekend may we all make new lasting memories, represent the Kenwood Blue with pride, and have a safe and terrific Homecoming weekend!
