Are you a student in need of clothes or food, but not sure who to ask or where to find it? When in need, Kenwood offers a community closet where students can go shopping for clothes and there are regular distribution of food events scheduled after school where families can come grocery shop for free.
Here at Kenwood, Mr. Goldbeck, our community school facilitator, is the coordinator of the community closet and the monthly food distribution opportunities. On the first Tuesday of every month, students can grab-and-go food on their way to their buses outside the MPR, starting at 2:20 p.m.
On the fourth Thursday of every month the community can come from 3-5 p.m. to grocery shop outside the main cafeteria or inside if weather is bad. The organizations that make this possible are Leading by Feeding, EP International Ministries, and Fresh Fruit Farms . Bread and fresh fruit are the main offerings but there is a little bit of everything so be sure to check it out today, October 23, after school

The community closet is located in room 100 across from the library. Students can come during lunch shifts. Kenwood works with local businesses that help support this cause. Uptown Cheapskate (located on route 40) donates all the clothes, while various non-profit organizations and churches donate the hygiene products.
The community closet was brought to Kenwood about mid-school year last year. The free food distribution started in the spring of last school year. They have been very successful so far. Students and their families have taken advantage of it. These things were brought to Kenwood to help the whole community. They are not just for low-income families but for everyone.
Mr Goldbeck shares, “I would say these things have been pretty successful. I’d love to hear student feedback about it too though!” If you’ve benefited or taken advantage of these wonderful opportunities, we’d love to hear more about it.
Having a community that supports each other is truly a beautiful thing. The free food distribution and community closet bring people together and establish connections. It is nice to know that there are organizations looking out for families when they’re struggling or just in need of things or whatever the circumstances are.
