Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) is the month that honors Hispanic History, cultural contributions, and achievements of Hispanic and Latino Americans. As a part of HHM the NFL awards high school football players the NFL Latino Youth Honors Award.
Kenwood’s very own David Martinez-Monreal, a senior middle linebacker, was selected as one of the recipients for the NFL Latino Youth Honors Award . The NFL, in partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, recognizes stand out Latino student-athletes across all 32 NFL team areas for their academic and athletic excellence. The NFL Latino Youth Honors is presented by Procter & Gamble.
“David is a truly deserving nominee for the NFL Latino Youth Honors, exemplifying excellence both on and off the field. As a three-year varsity player and team captain, he leads by example, earning the title of leading tackler through relentless effort and dedication. His leadership extends beyond the football field as he serves as the head of the Sports and Science Academy at our school, inspiring his peers through his commitment to academic success and innovation. David maintains high academic standards while actively participating in community service initiatives, showing a deep sense of responsibility to those around him. His strong character, work ethic, and ability to lead in multiple arenas make him an ideal representative for the Ravens and a standout candidate for this prestigious honor,” shared Coach Swain.
To qualify for the award a student athlete must be:
- Latino/Hispanic high school senior
- Flag or tackle football player
- Be in good academic standing (minimum GPA 3.0)
- Must demonstrate commitment to his/her community
- Verifiable football stats (season and career), with designation of tackle or flag
David feels very fortunate to receive this honor. It feels as if years of hard work in football has paid off. “Coach Swain made this recognition for me possible. My parents always pushed me to really try my best.”
Hispanic History Month runs from September 15-October 15 so the award is presented to all award recipients at that time. David will be recognized and presented his award by Procter & Gamble at this week’s Ravens game, October 5 at 1pm, against the Texans.
David adds, “At first I was really excited.. But I am definitely excited and happy that all of my hard work is being recognized.” He hopes to one day win another award for him and for his community.
Be sure to look for David this Sunday during the Ravens game!
