Last Friday, September 26, senior students celebrated their last year at Kenwood High School with the annual traditional senior sunrise. KHS senior sunrise is an event where seniors and teachers from Kenwood get together and watch the sunrise before school begins. Seniors met at the football field on September 26th at 6:45 just an hour before school started to watch the 6:58 sunrise.
At the gate of the football field Mr. Keener offered students donuts and drinks. A lot of students were wearing either matching pajama pants or cute clothes with “Senior” plastered on them. There were also little group games around the stadium for students to enjoy.
Senior Sunrise is a bittersweet experience. It’s one of the first senior experiences of the year but it also launches the march to the last-graduation where everything will change. One senior shared, “It is a good traditional experience as this is our last year of high school.” .
Many students have mixed feelings about what the future may hold for them or may not hold for them as this final year of high school and childhood begins. One student said “I feel anxious about it because I’m ready to graduate but I don’t know what the future holds for me.” Many students felt the same way but also many are pretty sure they are ready and excited to finally graduate high school in what is now just really a few months away.
Senior Sunrise is a great way for seniors to together outside of the school day. One student said, “I like how we do this because as our last year in school, many of us won’t see each other anymore after graduation.” Another student added, “It’s good for us to get together and celebrate our success and future departure.”
Senior Sunrise was just the beginning of a year worth of celebrations for the Class of 2026. We hope all have a successful and happy senior year of high school!
