With the new school year has come changes in the Bluebird Athletic Department with the arrival of a new athletic director. Coach Tomasura has taken on the position as the new athletic director (AD). During the summer Coach Ruocco decided to step down from his position as athletic director and retire from education. Kenwood chose Coach Tomasura as the new athletic director for the upcoming school year.
Coach Tomasura states the reason she took the position was, “having graduated with my master’s degree I knew this was the trajectory I wanted to go with. I wouldn’t say I planned to be an athletic director this soon, but I knew that I always wanted to do something with athletics, which is kind of how I segued into coaching,” she shares.
Coach Ruocco, who was the previous athletic director, retired at the beginning of September, which made her officially the new athletic director this school year. She added “I was kind of transitioning into the role as he wrapped up his career here at KHS.”
She plans for new things in the work. She hopes to create leadership councils for our athletes where juniors and seniors from every sports team get together and share ideas on events or fundraisers they can do to support the KHS athletic programs.
Tomasura herself was a three-sport athlete when she was younger. Growing up, she played soccer, basketball, and track. She had some really great coaches in high school and really great team experiences. Once her playing days were over, she was also a coach at the collegiate and high school levels which grew her love of coaching all the more and her passion for sports has clearly shown in her five years here as she was a coach for both the girls soccer and track teams before taking over the AD position.
During the summer Coach Tomasura obtained her masters in Sports Administration. She has spent her five years in education here at KHS with us. She hadn’t planned to be an athletic director so soon but when the opportunity came she jumped on it. “When the position presented itself, while I knew it would be challenging, I knew that it would be worth all the work and it would be rewarding,” Tomasura adds.
Her determination should inspire us all to reach for that goal we long for no matter the challenge. We are glad to have Coach Tomasura as KHS’s new athletic director and are hopeful for the future of Bluebird Athletics. We wish you the best and believe you will do great things as our new athletic director.
