At Kenwood, there are a multitude of community building activities throughout the year, but this year Kenwood added one students are still talking about-the Talent Show.
Back before Spring Break on March 27, Kenwood Theater and Drama Club hosted a Talent Show, providing a safe place for students to perform their talents. Ms. Taylor and the new dance teacher, Ms. Mcafee, were the coordinators behind the show. “The Talent show made me feel amazing with seeing everything come together and the energy through the crowd,” shared Zoe Ewanena.
The KHS Talent Show was used as a way for people to perform their own talents. It provided a platform for many individuals to showcase their skills and abilities in various fields, such as singing, dancing, comedy, and other performances. The talent show was performed in the auditorium where many family and friends could come to support their loved ones as they performed.
There was a lot of positive feedback and success revolving around the Talent Show from students and teachers alike. Ms. Taylor was proud of the results of the night. “It was very successful. It was one of the bigger crowds that Kenwood has had. It drew a big crowd thanks to the diversity of art that was advertised.”
The Talent Show was able to provide many opportunities for students to show their talents, their support for each other, and their love for their art. It gave people a chance to explore and work with different people. “The Talent Show allowed me to show off my talent and show others my skills and capabilities. It also really helped me with my confidence,” shared performer A’nya Debose.
Ms. Taylor added, “I am super proud of the students and the crowd for being so supportive. I’m proud of everyone for cheering each other on and hyping each other up. Nobody felt uncomfortable or embarrassed. Everyone felt equal and supported. That’s the biggest take away from the show, that everyone felt seen and supported. This makes me want to do it again next year.” Lastly, she says, “It gave a voice to everyone. It gave them a space to do whatever they wanted.”
It was a fun night to remember and we hope it’s an annual tradition we get to see back again next year.
