Freshman Abby Bray has become the first girl in Kenwood High School history to earn a spot on the Kenwood baseball teams. Her strong arm and quick infield play stood out during her tryouts, securing her place on the Bluebird roster.
Playing baseball fills Abby’s afternoons and evenings with drills and practices, but she embraces the workload. Abby has been playing baseball her whole life. “What inspired me to tryout for the baseball team instead of softball is because I love baseball more than anything,” she shared.
She is the only girl at Kenwood High School that is on the baseball team and her experience on the team this season was great. “With me being the only girl, they were all really fun and supportive. It’s really been a fun season,” she shares.
Abby’s goals for the season and for now on is to “try my best every play and give 100% every time”. Her advice for girls who also want to play for the baseball team or other male dominant sports is “If other girls want to tryout next year I say do it. Try really hard and you don’t have to be like any of the boys. Just be yourself and do the best you can do.”
We look forward to seeing Abby on the ball diamond in the years ahead.
