The Bluebirds baseball team beat Parkville 6-1 at Parkville on Thursday to win the 4A North Regional Championship. This is the fourth regional title for Kenwood baseball. They won in 1978, 1980, and 2021 and this is their second regional title with Erik Skarda as head coach.
Kenwood Bluebirds jumped out to the lead in the top of the seventh inning after Daniel Duvall singled, scoring two runs, Patrick Boblitz doubled, scoring two runs, Lucas Cintron was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Carter Pugh hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Kyle Rineman earned the win for the Bluebirds. The starter gave up one hit and zero runs over six innings, striking out six and walking five. “Yesterday was like a dream. It was a moment that will replay in my head for the rest of my life,” Rineman shared.
Dominic Zorilla collected the save. Duvall and Boblitz were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Kenwood. The Bluebirds turned one double play in the game.
The Bluebirds will take on the Broadneck Bruins today, May 16 at 1pm at Broadneck High School in Annapolis for the 4A State Quarterfinals. Senior Daniel Duvall shares, “Winning the Regional Championship was just surreal! Bringing in the winning run was also nothing short of amazing. The entire season has been the best and I’m so grateful to be a part of this team and ending my Bluebird baseball career with them!”
