The 2025 Kenwood girls lacrosse team had a successful Spring season. The team ended with a regular season record of 5-6 with commanding wins over Dundalk, Woodlawn, Owings Mills, Overlea & Patapsco and then three of their losses (Parkville, Lansdowne and Parkdale) were very close games with Kenwood only losing by a goal!
This year the team consists of 5 seniors, 8 juniors, 3 sophomores, and 7 freshmen and included 10 brand new players to the sport! In fact, all of the girls, except senior Victoria Kerner (Captain) who has played for 13 years, had never played lacrosse before joining the team here at Kenwood, meaning most of the team has less than three years of experience!
“The girls have worked together, on and off the field, the entire season, in order to overcome many obstacles. Their desire to learn the game and play their best is evident every time they walk onto the field on game days,” says Coach Doug Loftus. He adds, “We are like one big family, which includes two sets of real life sisters (Captain junior Olivia Wollschlager and her freshman sister, Abigail; and Captain junior Breana Mabry and her freshman sister, Jenna) and it’s amazing how much these girls keep pushing each other to be their best individually and as a unit. You can tell they all really like each other and want to be around each other as much as possible and that makes playing the game fun for all!”
The team has had a few reasons to celebrate this season including Junior Olivia Wollschlager (Captain) scoring her 100th Kenwood career goal on April 7th vs. Overlea! The girls were also able to again have a 1st round bye (skipping the quarterfinal game) in the Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association (MPSSAA) playoff bracket and were able to secure home field advantage for the semifinal game for a second year in a row. They hosted the Perry Hall Gators on Thursday, May 8 where their season unfortunately came to an end but as one devoted fan shared, “they did an amazing job this year” and we’re proud of our Lady Bluebirds.
