Spring is here and with it not just warmer weather, rainy days, but also time for the annual Kenwood Art Show.
This week on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 5pm-7pm the Spring Art Show will be held here at Kenwood High School hosted by many of our art teachers here at Kenwood, featuring not just Kenwood artists but also our feeder middle and elementary schools.
Kenwood’s Art Department Chair, Ms. Cain, begins preparing for the Spring Art Show about 10 months in advance. “I start by choosing a date about 10 months in advance. I also reserve the display boards at that time. Then I have to touch base with all the art teachers in our area. We all prepare artwork for display throughout the school year. A few special pieces are chosen to be on the poster. Mr. Roeder and his graphics students design and print the posters for all the schools,” she shares. However, the preparation isn’t just about preparing the displayed artwork but also the activities of the evening.
Activities are a fun addition to the art show. This year will include face painting, art activities, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, but also a jazz ensemble from Mr. Ladd’s students and food trucks to cover dinner. During the Spring Art Show many pieces will be honored.
Another addition to this year Ms. Cain added, “This year, we will have a juried show! That means we will choose artwork for prizes!” The prizes are currently a mystery to students that will be revealed at the art show.
Aside from preparing and participating in the annual art show, several Kenwood artists also have their art displayed in various places around the county. You can find Kenwood art displayed in the following places:
