Fridays are often an anticipated day as the week winds down with the weekend around the corner. But this year Kenwood added Fun Fridays to add to the excitement of Friday!
Every Friday throughout March 2025 at Kenwood High School, anywhere from 350 to 50 selected students were given a pass to partake in the Fun Friday initiative in the MPR, during their second or fourth period class of the day.
One Friday was for students with perfect attendance, another was for students teachers recommended that had made significant improvements, and another was for second quarter honor roll students.
“Fun Fridays were actually Mrs. Smith’s idea as she stated want to give the students a way to have fun, get rewarded with the gift of time during a stretch where we did not have many days off. Just a different way to acknowledge positive behavior to students that are deserving,” shared Mr. Goldbeck.
Mr. Goldbeck, as the school’s community facilitator, was the one behind organizing the weekly celebrations with snacks and games for the selected students to engage in on their break from class.
Students in attendance of Fun Friday enjoyed the reprieve. “It was nice to see everyone hanging out having fun and it’s always nice to get out of class and feel recognized,” shared senior Z’nya B.
It varied week by week what students were given passes to attend. Who was selected rotated weekly from attendance, academics, most improved as the incentive for the invite to attend Fun Friday.
