This year is the first year BCPS has full girls wrestling teams and Kenwood is 1 of about 10 BCPS schools that are taking part in a full dual, tri and tournament schedule!
“They’re a pretty inspirational group of ladies! Last week they had their first tournament and took third place,” shares Kenwood Athletic Director Coach Ruocco. The girls wrestling team is coached by head wrestling coach Will Richter, head girls coach Ms. McRae, and assistants John Cooper, Daylon Duncan, Ryan Blockston and Avery Pierce.
This past weekend the girls wrestled in the Knigthmare Tournament. “Our Girls team put on a show. We entered with 9 and ALL 9 came home with hardware. We had the most the finals with 6. We also came away with 3rd place as a team. We made some school history,” shares head wrestling coach Richter.
The girls team made school history with their third place team finish for the first KHS girls wrestling team. Individually the girls did fantastic with the following results:
– Brookelynn is the FIRST 2X Girls Knightmare Champion BACK 2 BACK. And unofficially the FIRST Kenwood wrestler ever to ever do it boys or girls!
– Thurayah Mohamed was named THE MOST OUTSTANDING LIGHTWEIGHT. She was seeded 5th and pinned her way through the tournament. Knocking off the #1 and #2 seeded girls.
