Kenwood, along with several other BCPS schools, added a new position this school year.
According to BCPS, “The Community School Facilitator works with staff, students, families, and community organizations to foster a school environment that is welcoming to families, inclusive of the necessary community resources, and draws upon family and community resources to support overall student success.”
In this new position Kenwood welcomed Mr. Goldbeck to the nest. He’s a former BCPS football coach, a special needs teacher, and a social studies teacher. He worked at Parkville High and Dundalk High for twelve years before coming to this position but prior to that he was also a teacher here at KHS for four years!
Mr. Goldbeck’s goal is to connect students at Kenwood to resources and make the community more knowledgeable of the resources available. So far this school year, he organized our Back to School Night like a Block Party out by the athletic fields and brought in community resources like Life Builders Church to distribute fresh fruits and vegetables from Richardson’s Farms. He also worked with Kenwood’s counseling department to award students with attendance of 95% or higher first quarter with KHS shirts that you can proudly see students wearing in the halls.
He also recently with the help of KHS social workers, Ms. Reaves and Ms. Sachs-Kohen, organized our first Pop Up Thrift shop back on November 21 in our MPR in which students could browse gently used to brand new clothes, shoes, and items for the upcoming winter season. KHS senior attended the Pop Up Thrift Shop and “found it a great way to get things I normally can’t get,” he shared.
Uptown Cheapskate, Vanessa’s Heart, Empower 4 Life, and Essex United Methodist all helped provide the items for Kenwood’s Pop Up Thrift Shop. There will be a return Pop Up Shop in March 2025.
Mr. Goldbeck’s next big community event is this Saturday, December 7 from 10:00-4:00 at our Kenwood Holiday Market. Kenwood’s graphic arts students will have custom Kenwood Snowflake stickers available, and Kenwood’s IB students wrapped up over 150 books to give out. There will be food given out as well and some things from various vendors for purchase. Santa and the Grinch will be present and conclude the day with catching Kenwood Drama’s production of Mean Girls.
Mr. Goldbeck has many more things planned the second half of the school year. He is currently hosting a raffle for different items throughout the month of December and January. With good attendance students are eligible to enter the raffle to win different prizes like TVs and headphones.
If you need to get in contact with Mr. Goldbeck, you can find him either in his office in the main office, or you could find him out in the hallways around the school as he continues to connect our KHS student body with the resources of our community.
