Kenwood Football returned to the nest on their home turf this school year. Once again, the lights brighten on Friday nights and your blue and white bluebirds take the field on their brand new home turf field.
Delegate Ric Metzgar, a Kenwood alum, helped secured the $400,000 grant to build Kenwood a new turf field, which took place back in 2023. Last year’s Spring sports were the first to play on the new turf so this was football’s first return season to playing on turf. Delegate Metzgar and Principal Smith participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony to new field on Friday, September 6, 2024, the Bluebirds Home Opener to this year’s football season.
This Friday, October 25 your Bluebirds will go against Woodlawn High School for KHS’s Homecoming Football game at 6:30.
Though it’s been a bit of a rough season for the Bluebirds, despite the struggles, several players have had great seasons. Senior wide receiver, Darryl Giles is breaking Kenwood receiving records with 19 catches for 496 yards and 5 touchdowns for 26.1 yard per catch average.
Senior running back Malachi Lee has also had an impressive season as he’s currently 7th in the county with rushing yards and hopes to gain more before the season ends. “Even though it’s been a tough season, I’ve been with Kenwood football for four years and have really seen a lot of improvement with the program.”
Challenging seasons are often where the most growth happens and where champions take root. As the Bluebird coaches state, “No matter the challenges, we keep pushing forward. Our Bluebirds are determined and will continue to work hard to reach our goals. Together, we rise, and together, we’ll soar!”
Come out for Homecoming Bluebird football this Friday! See you under the lights, KHS!
