On Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 6pm Kenwood will hosts its annual Kenwood Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony at Superior Catering.
This year’s inductees include:
Jada Boyd — Class of 2013 (Cross country 2009-2013, Indoor Track 2009-2013, Outdoor Track 2009-2013) “Kenwood sports helped me obtain a 4-year athletic scholarship for college to run cross country and indoor/outdoor track. I had many great coaches and assistant coaches that encouraged me to persevere through challenges faced athletically and academically. It helped me stay focused on reaching my professional and personal goals. I learned the importance of staying disciplined and consistent in order to reach my academic and athletic goals. Last but not least, it has taught me the importance of teamwork, communication and the ability to work well with others.”
Scott Copinger– Class of 1996 (Football and lacrosse) “Playing football and lacrosse at Kenwood played a significant role in shaping various aspects of my life including discipline, teamwork, leadership skills, perseverance and a strong work ethic which I use today in my everyday life. Additionally, it provided personal growth, physical fitness, memorable experiences and friendships that will last a lifetime.”
Quantrell Jones– Class of 2018 (soccer) ” I think the most important thing I took take away from my participation in Kenwood sports is that it started the path of how to be a leader for me. As a freshman I was willing to do many things to make sure the team was ready for training and game. Although I knew I was better I treated my teammates with respect and I earned theirs. My teammates had full confidence in me as I had confidence in them and we all had the same goal. I think by me demanding more from myself and from others, it translated on the field as we fought hard until the final whistle.”
Doug Loftus Jr.– Class of 2006 (Played football, indoor track, baseball, and lacrosse Coach- Football 3 seasons, Boys Lacrosse 10 seasons, Girls Soccer 3 seasons, Girls Lacrosse 3 Seasons, Indoor Track 3 seasons) “Playing sports at Kenwood helped shape the person I am today, my time playing at Kenwood had a great impact on my success today. The life lessons learned, the victories and hardships, friends and role models gained while playing at Kenwood still stick with me today. Without my time playing at Kenwood, I am not sure I would be in the career I have as a Special Education Physical Education teacher and current coach at Kenwood. My coaches, specifically Coach Ruocco, as role models instilled in me the values and hard work that I continue to push for the kids and players I teach and coach. Kenwood athletics provided me with so much while I was there, that when I got the opportunity to coach and give back there I was ecstatic. I take pride in my time that I played at Kenwood and continue to do so keeping that high level of expectations and pride while coaching there. Coaching has allowed me to keep Kenwood a special place in my life and heart, while being able to instill that same feeling to the players that I coach. My hopes is that I can make the same lifelong impact on the athletes I coach that the coaches had on me.”
Adam Mizell — Class of 1993 (Played Soccer 3 Years , Basketball 2 years, Lacrosse 4 Years, and coached – Soccer JV Girls 2003, Varsity Girls Assistant 2004 – 2006, Varsity Boys Head Coach 2006 – 2016) “I learned to compete and work hard off of the field to get better as an individual, which would inevitably help the team get better. I was not fortunate enough to be part of great teams during my high school career, but I always wanted to be my best to give the team a chance to win. I made many friendships on the field which I still cherish to this day as a grown man. Our coaches held us accountable for everything we did and I was able to carry that life lesson with me during my playing days and even now still as a coach.”
Shawn Regulski — Class of 2009 (played football and basketball) “While participating in sports at Kenwood it gave me discipline, courage and strength. Playing sports and having coaches and teachers encouraging me to always be my best have made me the man I am today. Without Kenwood
sports I would not have the lifelong friendships I have today, with not only my former teammate but my coaches. Sports have always been a huge part of my life even until today, I still use the skills I learned while playing sports at Kenwood in my everyday life. I looked up to my coaches and they inspired me to become a coach myself. Playing sports at Kenwood gave me the opportunity play at the next level in college. Kenwood has given me the memories that will last a lifetime. Go Bluebirds!”
Galvesta Ruth Schmolitz–Class of 1998 (cross country, track and field, and relay racing) “Running races kept me and still keeps me focused and centered on all my everyday goals.”

Kenwood Athletic Hall of Fame honors those who have excelled in leadership and athletics while being in good standing during their time at Kenwood High School. Those who have further served and supported Kenwood athletic programs are also honored.
For years Kenwood High School never had an enshrinement for recognizing its outstanding athletes and their accomplishments. In 2007 former coaches Lefty Elliott and Carroll Hess discussed the idea of Kenwood High School having its own Athletics Hall of Fame. That idea was then presented to Derek Maki the Athletic Director at Kenwood High School for 13 years (2001-2014).
A committee was then formed to elect the worthy individuals to be honored by their induction into the Hall of Fame. That committee consists of Nikki Cartier, Andrew Gallagher, Tony Maggard, Derek Maki, Tony Ruocco, Thomas Trafton, and Derek Woodward.
Through the 2024 elections, well over 150 deserving inductees have been enshrined into this prestigious Athletics Hall of Fame. Each inductee receives a lapel pin, a membership card, a sticker, a t shirt and a membership card that allows them free admission to all Kenwood sponsored sporting events, a plaque that lists the sports they participated in and/or their contribution to Kenwood’s sports programs.
Congratulations to all of this year’s inductees!
