Though we’re not quite yet out of school, it’s definitely feeling like summer is here. With summer typically comes some down time for students and teachers. Though all KHS students have assigned summer reading you can find on your ELA schoology pages, some of that reading includes choosing a book of your own liking.
As the temperature rises and summer approaches there is nothing better than a good beach read. For high school students, the break from classes offers not just a chance to unwind, but an opportunity to explore new stories, ideas, and characters. Whether lounging by the pool, nestled in a hammock under the shade of a tree, or escaping the heat in the cool confines of home, the summer months present the perfect backdrop for literary exploration. This summer, a diverse array of captivating tales awaits, promising adventure, mystery, romance, and everything in between. From the mysterious allure of “A Discovery of Witches” to the adrenaline rush of “Warcross,” each book leaves its imprint on our hearts and minds. Through the pages of these novels, we’ve laughed, cried, and perhaps even discovered a bit more about ourselves. Here is a list compiled of several books that fit everyone’s taste, from romance to mystery to paranormal. Whether you read all or one of these books, they are worth your time this summer.

A woman in 1800s london, dresses up as a man to go and vote and simultaneously gets a job with the richest man in her city. Will she be able to keep up her disguise.
The Lady Rogue
A girls father goes missing and her and her father’s assistant go on a mission to find him, not to mention their are people trying to stop and kill them. Dracula-esque vibes.
When Life Gives you Lemons
Enemies to lovers, Arranged Muslim marriage and adopted child. Pakistani and epilepsy representation as well.
Ready Player One
A major competition with a major prize is a virtual reality world.
Betting on You
Two coworkers/frenemies bet to see if their whether their fellow coworkers will get together.
The Reappearance of Rachel Price
Bel’s mother disappears when she’s two and while filming a documentary about her disappearance, she reappears, but her story doesn’t all the way match up on where she’s been the last 16 years.

Violet attends Basgaith college in the riders quadrant while having a disability. There is death, dragons, and a dangerous school environment, an amazing read.

A couple who is engaged do things to each other to get the other person to call off the engagement.
Better than the Movies
Two people fake dating to get a boys attention. Very romantic and Taylor Swift esque.
Caraval
Scarlett finally gets a letter to go to Caraval and her sister gets kidnapped. She has to win the competition to get her back. Remember it’s all a game.
Five Survive
Five friends on a roadtrip find themselves in an extremely dangerous situation where a sniper is threatening to kill all of them. Not everyone will survive the night.
Dreams Lie Beneath
A girl goes uncover to get her dads job back and finds out many secrets of her family and the town itself.

A woman finds a cookbook that was owned by a woman in the 1950s and many many secrets unfold.
