Kenwood’s Environmental Club (KEN) have been actively participating and engaging other students in Earth Day, April 22 this year, for years under the leadership of KEN advisor Mr. Woodward. Since 2018, Kenwood has been a Green School because of the great activities KEN creates and engages students in on Earth Day and other times throughout the school year.
This year’s Earth Day festivities included plant sales, a campus cleanup, sunflower competition, Bluebird House install, a pollenation garden rehab, as well as hosting a Green Out on Monday and collecting donations to fund future Green activities here at Kenwood.
KEN sold over 200 plants on Monday. Students started planting in late January. Though the plant sale started on Earth Day they will keep selling them until all plants are claimed. “This is our main fundraiser for the club so please consider stopping by and pick up some of your favorite veggies, herbs, and flowers. Venmo and cash accepted. We still have plenty of tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and flowers to sell. Stop up to Room 212 to check them out,” shared Woodward.
Over 100 students participated in Monday’s Earth Day campus cleanup and collected over 80 pounds of litter. Over a dozen KHS homerooms and offices are also participating in the Sunflower Grow Contest which will conclude on Friday when we’ll see whose flower can grow the best.
Kenwood currently has four Bluebird Houses installed on campus. The environmental club will be renovating one house and installing two additional houses as part of their Earth Day week.
It was a full week of recognizing Earth Day here at Kenwood and we appreciate all that KEN does to make Kenwood and the Earth a better place!
