Over the past few months, Kenwood has undergone many changes. There have been many new staff roaming the halls, along with the return of Mr. Martin as Co-Principal. Additionally, Kenwood welcomes a new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Harley. Both bring fresh perspectives and new plans aimed at ensuring a positive move forward for Kenwood.
Mrs. Harley brings 25 years of educational experience to Kenwood, having previously worked at Milford Mill Academy and several other schools. She cites Kenwood’s School improvement plan as a key factor in her decision to join the staff. With plans of her own, she aims to engage ninth graders in her program, creating a supportive environment through her work with students. When asked about her message to students and staff, she emphasizes her sincere commitment to supporting both groups, stating, “I want them to know that I have the best intention for our staff and students. I’m truly here to support them, and not just the students; staff needs support too.”
Mrs Harley’s hope for this year is that both staff and students feel they have had a supportive experience with her. Despite being at Kenwood for just under two months, she has already made a positive impression on the staff. Mr. Kuklane, along with other teachers, express excitement about getting to know her and appreciate her joining the Kenwood staff. Mrs. Rodier comments on her, describing her as very personable and approaching her role at Kenwood with fresh eyes. Both teachers and students are enthusiastic about the potential of this year and hope to grow a positive relationship with our new Assistant Principal.
Mr. Martin may be new to some, but he is returning to Kenwood as Co-Principal. He previously worked at Kenwood for 13 years, serving as an assistant principal for three years and as principal for ten years. Mrs. Single, who has worked with him before, emphasizes his ability to ask the necessary questions and provides valuable support to Kenwood. Reflecting on his previous years Mr. Martin recalls, “We made major headway those years. The school was vibrant, students enjoyed coming to school, and programs were successful.” Kenwood has always been special to Mr. Martin, so it was a fast decision when asked to return and collaborate with Mr. Armstrong to turn the school around and make it a safer place for students.
Mr. Martin’s primary goal is to foster communication and instill pride in students for their school and its history. He emphasizes, “We want this to be a place of success for our students, and that will only happen if kids feel good about coming here.” Additionally, he stresses the importance of providing students with quality instruction to prepare them for their futures beyond graduation. When asked about his hopes for this year, he expresses, “I hope that by the time I feel I have done my job and can leave, this school is functioning properly, and Mr. Armstrong feels good and has all the tools he needs. We will have a real team effort here.” Both students and staff welcome Mr. Martin back and anticipate a safe and positive rest of the year with him as co-principal.
