Kenwood’s boys basketball team has been a fun team to follow this season. They have won their last fourteen games and haven’t suffered a loss since December 26! They ended their regular season Friday night with a huge win by 1 point over Dulaney as time expired.
They are taking their hot streak in to the playoffs next week. They have earned themselves the number 2 seed for the playoffs. They tip off against the winner between Woodlawn (6 and 12) verse Mervo (10 & 7) on Thursday, February 29 here at Kenwood at 5:00 pm.
Top players these season have been Austin Mbuyi, Niyon McKenzie, Neo Feehan, and Andrew Otuyelu. Franklin High, typically a tough opponent on their home court, wasn’t a match for Kenwood’s offense. Kenwood came out with the win with a score of 58-46 on February 7. Mbuyi scored 31 points, his highest in a game so far this season. His trend to put up points throughout the season is a trend we hope to see continue in to the playoffs. Neo Feehan was another key contributor in the Franklin win, with nine points and ten rebounds.
“I am very proud of this team, we started 2023 a little rough and ended up going 14-0 for the rest of 2024 going into playoffs. A quote that inspires me to keep going, ‘Forever remain humble, the (king) and the pawn return to the same box.’ ” shares senior basketball player Austin Mbuyi.
