In November, a group of twelve Kenwood students, all female and representing both the IB and SSA magnet programs, attended this year’s LEAD conference in Washington, DC. This cohesive group not only united passionate students but also served as a platform for peer learning, networking, and skill-building.
Ms. Williams, one of the chaperones, shared, “Ms. Jones and I took students to the LEAD DC conference in November to expose them to leadership opportunities and workshops. Our goal was to help them hone their skills and build their network of student leaders. Students engaged in activities and networking with other student leaders from around the world.”
At the LEAD conference, student leaders and educators were dedicated to building connections, expanding leadership skills, and amplifying student voices through service. This event brought together students from all around the world and welcomed students of any gender. One student who attended the conference recalls meeting people from Maine, Louisiana, and even someone from Britain.
During the conference, students engaged in discussions about exploring their strengths and different leadership styles. They also had the opportunity to collaborate with others, enabling them to build off each other’s ideas and strive towards becoming better students and leaders.
The LEAD conference is a premier national event that aims to connect student leaders, expand their leadership skills, encourage service-oriented leadership, and amplify student voices. Attending this conference empowers student leaders to make a substantial impact in their school, community, and beyond. Students were able to gain skills that will be useful beyond high school.
Kenwood attendee Eliza H adds, “Attending the leadership conference allowed me to share experiences and learn many things from how to revive culture within the school building to rising student voices. The leadership conference is a great experience overall to bond with people around your age that understand you. I am so grateful that I was able to attend, definitely an experience to remember!”
