Ever wondered how your teachers spend their time during the holiday break? To students, they may see teachers as an extension of school, thinking of assignments and planning for the upcoming school year, but many teachers enjoy their holiday breaks in many ways.
Different teachers have diverse ways of spending their breaks, providing a range of options for relaxation. Some prefer returning home to be with family, while others cherish moments with partners and children. For instance, Mrs. Williams spends her free time “sewing and knitting”, embracing a cozy break at home; while Mrs. Shields visits her family in Pennsylvania, specifically embarking in new and old traditions, from watching sports as a family to making Christmas Eve more special to her family.
There are many great things about celebrating the holiday season! This is the most joyful time of the year and spending time with your family and friends is a must! You can’t go wrong with ice skating or staying cozy while watching Christmas movies and making hot chocolate! This time of year is about bringing people together and celebrating each other. It serves as a reminder to be grateful for what you have and relish in the wonder of the season!
Students are looking forward to the break as well. Kenwood freshmen Isaiah Powell thinks the time off is much needed because “it gives you a chance to stop stressing over work”.
This poses the question of whether students should utilize the time off from school to catch up on and complete school work or give themselves a full mental break from anything school related.
Breaks, Kenwood senior Daniel Oloju, mentions are crucial for “stress release” and promoting a fresh mindset upon returning to school in the new year. School breaks are often a time to relax, sleep, and destress.
Students and teachers alike do things like cleaning or organizing to get ready for the New Year but rather than be productive some spend the time binge watching TV shows or movies or catching up on their favorite books.
What you choose to do during the break is up to you, but it should all center around you being better mentally, physically, and emotionally so that when you go back to school, you have a clear mind and a fresh start!
