The holiday season is meant to be a time of comfort, joy, and happiness. It is a time when people retreat back home to their families after eleven months of hard work that tests their courage, grit, and endurance.
For a short time the hope is some of the stress of society will fade away to the background in the month of December as we all pause to enjoy the holiday season. Gifts are shared, cookies are baked, families are gathered around trees, and for just a little bit we get caught up in the magic of Christmas.
Christmas is a global holiday that is cherished by millions, if not billions ,of people all over the world. A holiday called by many names for example like Pere Noel in France, Navidad in Spanish, and Kerstmis in Dutch. A global holiday that as been replicated in movies, broadway shows, tv shows, and lastly but not last songs. Part of the tradition of Christmas is enjoying favorite movies and songs in the entertainment industry.
Kenwood freshmen Isaiah Powell watches the same Christmas movie each year. He shares, ” My family watches the Grinch. It is a family tradition created by my mom. It elicits the sense of the holiday in my household.”
Turning on her favorite Christmas movies and listening to her favorite Christmas songs, has junior Sanai B switching in to her “Christmas Spirit” for the holiday season. “Home Alone and the Grinch are my favorite holiday movies. They’re relaxing and calming,” shares Sanau. She added that she also loves to listen to “ Wonderful Time” by Paul McCartney.
The entertainment business is no joke during the holidays with the amount of enormous views they accumulate during the months of November and December. Forbes Journalist Toni Flitzgerald points out that “80 million people watch at least a few minutes of a Hallmark movie in November and December.” Holiday movies gross a lot of income during the holiday with the world famous Home Alone grossing $285.76 million and Dr Seuss right behind it with $270.52 million according to the Domestic box office.
Some other Kenwood student favorites to watch during the holiday season are Polar Express and Elf. Whatever your favorite holiday movie or song may be this holiday season, we hope you take time to enjoy it with family and friends.
