At Kenwood High School, the girl’s varsity soccer team has played some really tough competition and have a current record of 3-8-1 but have lost some close games.
Rachel Otuyelu our striker, Breanna Vina who plays center mid, and Olivia Wohlschlager, the Bluebird’s goalie were just named First Team All County Division.
The girls have had to remap the whole field after losing some good seniors, and adjusting to new players and positions on the field. The girls are the number 3 seed and will host Woodlawn here at home today Wed. 10/25 at 4 pm in the Regional Quarterfinals.
One of the games that’s stood out was the Bluebirds win against Pikesville High School 10-0, with 3 goals by senior Rachel Otuyelu; two goals by sophomore Peyton Regulski; two goals by our head defensive player, senior Sophia Tonti; one goal by sophomore goalie, Olivia Wollschlager; one goal by sophomore Bre Mabry; and lastly one goal by senior Diana Jimenez.
Defensive soccer player, senior Esther Ordonez, four-year varsity letterman, has had a big impact on the team, on the field and on the sidelines. She is encouraging and loves helping out the coaches by repeating directions to the players on the field. Esther is still giving all she can on the field no matter what comes at her. She says, “Being a senior now definitely feels different especially during soccer, since everyone looks up to me now. My favorite game memory has to be playing against Franklin my junior year at Kenwood because we won in overtime and it was nice seeing everyone happy about this game.”
Our goalie, sophomore Olivia Wollschlager, two year varsity letterman, is the best at what she does. Olivia currently has 84 saves this season and last year she had 100 saves. Olivia, also known as Liv off and on the field, is an amazing supporter to the team, makes players laugh and encourages everyone during a rough game. Liv tells, “This soccer season is definitely different than last year. I’m going to miss my friends, especially on the field since we’re losing so many people. I’m nervous for next year. I loved winning over Franklin in over time; it was very thrilling. I’m also excited to play them again this season.”
One of the team’s tougher competition was against Parkville in a 3-1 win, with our freshmen, Jordan Nicholas, scoring all three goals! She has assisted from junior Taylor Glover and one unassisted. This game was a harder one to win, but Jordan, who is the striker of the team, is always ready for a challenge with her quick speed to kick the ball right past the goalie.
The girls varsity team, is doing amazing during their season keeping up with their opponents and keeping the challenge there even it the game is hard. The ten seniors will be missed when the season is over, but there is still going to be amazing things yet to happen! Come out and support them tonight against Woodlawn. Game starts at
