Kenwood’s Bluebird Library Quickly Reopens After Flood
March 15, 2022
Kenwood’s library flooded back on January 7. It filled up with about three inches of water because of a shower valve for fires. The library was closed for days while Kenwood administration worked to resolve the issue but it was reopened pretty quickly by the end of the month.
Mr. Powell, the principal at Kenwood, stated he was doing everything they could to prevent this from happening again, such as routine checks on the valves. “Now we just have to take all the necessary steps to have all the items that were damaged, fully replaced.”
Kenwood’s librarian Ms. Schmidt contributes the quick reopening to Kenwood’s building service workers. She shares, “The biggest contributing factor to the reopening was the incredible amount of work that our building services staff did over the initial weekend to clean, move, and dry out everything in the library. We ended up losing around 300 books and some furniture but otherwise were able to salvage so much more than I expected.”
Kenwood’s Bluebird Library is back open and ready to serve its readers. The library is back to its normal business hours. Students can come by and hang out at lunch. Ms. Schmidt adds, “We still have a ton of “new” books from the last two years that haven’t even been checked out once yet due to the pandemic. We’re also waiting on our most current order and hope to have even more new books for students in the near future!”
Spring time is a great time to start a new book so be sure to visit your Bluebird Library soon.
