Along with the tradition of Adopt-a-Family, there are numerous other festive traditions the Kenwood community participates in during the holiday season.

There’s something to get everyone in the holiday spirit, from attending the winter music concert to participating in activities such as a classroom door decorating contest or holiday spirit week.

This year Kenwood’s SGA reminded everyone the holiday season is about kindness and giving with their “Countdown of Kindness” Campaign. Each day in the month of December, the SGA suggested a good deed for all students to participate in to bring kindness and good cheer to their peers or family, such as complimenting someone, thanking a favorite teacher or writing a holiday card.

A favorite holiday tradition in the halls of Kenwood is the annual door decorating contest. Teachers and students transformed their doors and hallways into a winter wonderland. This year’s winners were Ms. Littlejohn in first place, Ms. Williams in second place, and Mr. Lyons in third place.

Kenwood’s PTSA organized a community cookies with Santa event where the KHS Orchestra provided the evening’s accompanying sounds to put the guests in the mood for the approaching holiday season.

Kenwood’s music department lead by Ms. Nicole Pennington and Mr. Kevin Ladd also put on a spectacular holiday concert on December 13. Over 100 students participated in the choral program and the orchestra to put on this holiday tradition. The concert choir  also will fill the halls with song as they carol while the SGA delivers cookies to classrooms on Friday.

To wrap up the last week before winter break, students and staff enjoyed a holiday Spirit Week. Students and staff in their favorite  pajamas filled the halls on Monday. On Tuesday everyone dressed as their favorite holiday character. On Wednesday everyone tried to outdo each other with their ugliest sweater. Thursday was wear your flannel and Friday was for Kenwood gear.

The halls of Kenwood were decked with holiday spirit and joy this past month. The Kenwood community wishes all of their staff, families, and the rest of the Essex community a wonderful holiday break. See you in 2019!
